The journey that led to SpeedHut began in 2008 with the founding of ASAP Racing. The vision, as co-founder Guillaume Hardy recalls, was simple yet ambitious:
“To build a top-tier workshop and establish ourselves as the trusted experts in the Enduro scene.”
From day one, ASAP Racing was immersed in the sport – offering essential mechanical support at major events such as the Roof of Africa and at local enduro races.
As the business grew, its expertise expanded into all dirt bike categories, allowing the team to specialise in all disciplines and master every aspect of the trade.
This deep involvement and commitment earned ASAP Racing a respected name in the off-road community, leading to its appointment as a Husqvarna dealer as well as to strong partnerships with leading industry brands including the likes of Alpine Stars, Golden Tyres, and TRP.
The foundation was set: expert service built on firsthand experience and strong industry partnerships.
Evolution & Rebranding:
The Birth of SpeedHut
After successfully developing a re-treaded off-road tyre, Brett Sproson and Andrew Stead of Leader Tread acquired the business, giving it a fresh identity while keeping its core values intact. Managed by Dee Stead, the SpeedHut team – including long-time members such as Calvin and Emi – maintained their reputation for exceptional service and rider support, specialising in gear, bikes, and workshop care.
During this period, SpeedHut transitioned its manufacturer alignment from the Austrian brand to the French manufacturer Sherco, then known for supporting South African enduro star Wade Young.
The shop also maintained its strong partnership with the School of Hard Rocks (SOHR) Club, continuing to provide Roof of Africa support packages as well as assistance to members competing at every level.
The next chapter in the SpeedHut story began in June 2024, when long-time customer Keaton Gardiner and Dee Stead started planning the business’s future.
By October 2024, Keaton officially purchased the business – acquiring the dealership, operations, and the experienced staff who helped build its reputation. With an eye on growth and innovation, Keaton made the decision to align SpeedHut with Rocksteady SA, the proud importers of the Italian heritage brand Beta Motorcycles.
This move positioned SpeedHut to offer customers access to one of the world’s top off-road motorcycle brands, alongside the trusted workshop and service expertise that riders had come to depend on.
“SpeedHut’s legacy is defined by a service commitment to the riding community and a passion for the best machinery. Taking ownership wasn’t just about buying a business; it was about investing in that proven history of expertise.
We’re building on our legacy – ready to deliver even more to our customers and be a definitive name in the sport for years to come.”
Keaton and the SpeedHut team extend their gratitude to everyone who played a part in this journey — all previous owners, managers, employees, suppliers, partners, clubs, and most importantly, the loyal clientele.
